Since moving 5 years ago, we’ve explored the outdoors in numerous ways – cycling, paddle boarding, camping, running, winter sports and hiking! The Pacific Northwest offers a wide range of ourdoor leisure activities and that was part of the lure in our relocation.
2020 has put a stop to a number of those activities not only because of covid but also the arrival of A in February! We are really looking forward to her growing up in this area, I am dissapointed that she will not grow up by the south east coast of England but this area is a pretty close second place! Plus – no need to venture to France for snow!
Since August 2020 we have made a conscious effort as a family to get outside, and to do it safely. We live in WA which has a state mandate for masks which includes hiking. We do sometimes take them off if it is a very quiet trail and we are the only ones there or if we are quickly taking a photo. Our photos therefore show both with and without masks. We are so thankful that there are many many hiking trails around that we’ve been able to find ones which aren’t very busy or which are wide and big enough that you rarely come across others where you cannot leave at minimum 2 meters between them and us. We have turned around at a trailhead when there was a park ranger directing traffic to park! I was not willing to walk those trails that day.
We have also reached an agreement to not show A’s face in photos on line at the moment whilst we navigate our desire to show her off verses her rights as a person to agree or disagree. There are the occasional photo that I love though so it is not a clear decision yet. I think about the photos taken of me growing up and whether I would have liked them to be posted, and the answer is not really! It has led to some very interesting ways to capture photographs! However; if you are following us on instagram be sure to check out our stories as those often do show us all!
