I know, I know that in theory it is camping season all year around but for us I’ve not explored cold weather camping. It interests me but not enough with two little children.
The PNW is full of places you can camp. State Parks, specific camp grounds, peoples back yards – hello hipcamp!, dispersed camping and backpacking. People also love to camp in our area so it can be very tricky getting a campsite without some forward planning. This year I did plan in advance and picked 3 camp trips for us one in each summer month so I knew we would get something in without me panicking about the site or camp ground.
Deception Pass is a must for me, I love the campground and the ease of access in driving there but also all the things to do around there that are just perfect for small children. Additionally this year we will be meeting some other families there so we can have even more fun not only for my A and C but also us as adults. Manchester State Park was another one I really wanted to book in because we went there a couple of years ago when A was still tiny and I remember thinking this would be a great place where she can bike around plus there is a beach and picnic shelters we can explore. This year I have added Fort Casey in, I enjoy visiting Fort Casey so when I saw availability I took it!
I entered the Enchantment Lottery again this year, and also was unsuccessful again, but I’ll keep an eye out as I think they will release any unclaimed ones. It would be a dream to get something in the Stuart Zone but I’m not holding my breath too much!
What about backpacking you ask? Well…Of course!
A group trip with other families to Second Beach for 1 night is planned, and I’m hoping to convince a friend or two to go back to Camp Handy with me again, that was a lovely one. Ozette Triangle too is one I would like to do again, I’m not sure multiple locations is in it for me this year though. Who knows! Maybe I’ll surprise you.
