2020 Project 366

Project 366 – Weeks 4 and 5

Due date is becoming nearer and nearer, and I still haven’t managed to find space or time to write anything on here in a timely fashion. It’s strange to read over my journal notes aka 1 sentence here and there about what was happening at this time.

Week 4 is the last full week before my due date and I wasn’t quite nesting, but I was highly and easily distracted from doing anything of importance this week. For some reason this was the week I decided to plan future quilting projects, finish knitting a gift for a stranger, AND decide that I needed to hand make cards to go with the future planned quilting projects. Needless to say my craft room is in complete disarray.

19. Chinese dinner out – this place looks really sleazy from the outside, bright florescent lights outside saying Open and I said to Hubster that either it would be really really good food or we are about to walk into a strip club in disguise. Oh my goodness – we have a new favourite Chinese place, this place is huge on the inside. 30 min wait to be seated and the food was ah-maz-ing! They also gave me the spiciest food they could.

20. Homemade tags and future quilt planning, because I am a huge procrastinator who should have been tidying up the craft room and not getting distracted! I finally used those stamps I got a couple of years back.

21. This was the 2nd most exciting thing to happen this week. Diaper Stork drop off! I had always known I wanted to use cloth diapers/nappies. Even if we were in the U.K. I still would have opted for cloth. This company is local and family run in the Seattle Area, and they do a collection service so all we do is place the used ones in the bin and they collect weekly and replace. I’ve rented two little newborn covers as I’m not sure how big little one will be.

22. Back at the future quilt planning, with two little helpers as well.

23. Someone posted on a community page before Christmas that their toddler loves the Fat Controller from Thomas, and they had brought a knitting pattern and tried to teach herself to knit this for her sons present. She then tried to buy one but couldn’t afford it. For some crazy reason I replied to the post, being very clear I couldn’t get it done for Christmas but I’d make it for her to be ready Jan. Because 6 weeks before your baby is due is the perfect time to take on a complicated toy making exercise. I forgot how much I dislike making toys!

24. Finished it!! 4 days before due date.

25. 1st most exciting this week – the arrival of some merino wool base layers for little ones winter season. I love winter hiking, and we both love snowsports. Skiing, snowboarding and cross country skiing. And we already have our Thule Chariot with the add ons to be able to share our love with our baby. I can’t wait for this to fit them in a year! This company Iksplor is owned by two sisters, and are ethical and transparent in their business. You also send back your base layers ones your child has grown out of it and they will recycle or reuse it (or of course gift to someone else depending on how much you’ve used it!) I personally love merino wool base layers and believe they are well worth the cost. Hiking around Borneo for 2 weeks a few years back and I lived in the same merino wool top the entire time, washing it every 2-3 days depending on the water situation.

26. Blew up the birth tub today, and realized we don’t have the right faucets to fit the kits to fill it up! Mad rush, and unsuccessful day. A little stressed about how we are going to fill this up. I long for a water birth, my SIL had one with her second and loved it.

27. Success! Hubster had a great idea to attach the hose directly to the shower instead of the faucets. It works, plus we can heat it to the right temperature straight away and easily add extra cold or hot as needed.

28. Happy due date! Here’s a baby bump.

29. Busy day. Prenatal massage just before my midwife appointment. Then some natural remedies for encouraging baby to come. Interesting night it was! Balloon catheter didn’t kick start anything. I had some lovely kitty cat snuggles though.

30. Surprised it took so long for Max cat to jump in this little crib.

31. There is zero sign of this baby coming. One of my lovely prenatal yoga teachers (who wears many hats – doula, yoga teacher, parent educator) is also a spinning babies instructor. The midwives think that baby is too high at the moment to press down so when I mentioned this at yoga, this instructor offered to come to our house and do spinning babies with us both to help encourage the best positioning. It felt really great having someone else take the weight of baby off me.

32. Happy Saturday and still no baby. Had midwifery appointment in the morning, the rest of the day was spent at home with fingers crossed. Balloon catheter helped a little, but baby is still up high. Lemon verbena and castor oil smoothie was taken today. A day and night to be completely forgotten. High hopes, but nothing. Instead I organized some of my yarn and planned for two Christmas presents for next year.
